Frequently asked Questions on SEO

No one can guarantee a no1 ranking on the search engines.

"Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a "special relationship" with Google, or advertise a "priority submit" to Google. There is no priority submit for Google." Quote from Google.

Google ( or any other search engine) cannot be bribed

No amount of money will give you No1 spot on Google for you chosen keywords. The only method is to purchase clicks with your own google adword campaign where you bid for each seleted word and pay for each visit to your site, irrelevent of a sale/enquiry or not.

Quality NOT Quantity

Do not fill pages with drivel thinking that the more content you have the better! Smaller amount of content, rich in information will be greeted by search engine bots and spiders with open arms. We will like to mention that genuine content and NOT content plagurised from another websites is better - remember, you cant fool the search engines, they KNOW if you do this and will penalise if they do.

Search Engine Rankings do not happen overnight

As soon as your website is built DO NOT expect that is it going to appear on the search engine results - these things take time. Search engine bots and spiders need to assess your website so they can decide the position in the ranking to place it. There are rumours in the industry but have not be confirmed, that Google have a 'sandbox' where new sites a placed in a holding pen for a period of 2 to 3 months before the site is given its ranking.

Ranking high on one search engine does not guarantee you top rankings on all the rest. Different search engines have a different formula in ranking website than others. Being No1 on Google DOES NOT GUARANTEE you to rank No 1 on MSN.COM or Yahoo.

"I heard that using hidden text and door-way pages add content and help in ranking"

Make no mistake any 'dodgy' methods used in getting your website rank can have a detrimental effect, even leading to being banned from certain search engines! OMuk use no such methods, all rankings achieved are based on their own merits using ethical SEO methods.

We do things our way, we rarely listen or take action from other SEO companies. We use various methods according to the site we are building. Please do not ask us for all our methods, we never give away trade secrets, would you?

"There are no metatags on my website and I was told that this is what makes the search engines find my site"

This is a question which was asked by one of our clients. We did make the point that there is no hard and fast rules in getting your website ranking. Do not believe what you read or hear on this subject since there is a lot of disinformation out there relating to this subject.

At Online Marketing UK we do not follow the norm and use every optimisation known and on some website builds we do leave out metatags for a good reason. Any experienced SEO company have their own tried and tested methods, unique to them which they have honed through years in the industry. Our advice is to keep faith and let them do their job, they wont be in business if they didnt.
- Search Engine Rankings do not happen overnight

As for the client, their website is ranking well and we still have not added metatags yet.

Do not rely on just the search engines for internet traffic to your website.

Yes, search Engines DO PROVIDE a large proportion of traffic to your website, but not necessarily RELEVENT VISITORS. Usually link backs from related sites, word of mouth and even flyers with your website address on is usually most effective methods.

Remember that your website is one of the most cost effective and powerful means of advertising available, make sure you make FULL USE of its potential.
